Getting Ahead of Myself – New Coasters! New Show!

Well, I always hate it when the stores jump the gun on holidays or seasonal changes (my stomach still drops every year when that first “Back to School!” sale is announced).

So, in keeping with that anti-jumping-the-gun policyBingo Card Coaster Set for Halloween by Cheltenham Road

WELCOME TO HALLOWEEN!!!!!!

In my defense, it’s not totally my fault, I’m doing this because I’m participating in a big Halloween show on August 9/10 called Scare LA.

BVS_ScareLA_MailChimp1It sounds like it will be a really fun show.

And it turns out that August 9th is actually the 45th anniversary of the opening of the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland so they are having a panel with some of the original designers (I may need to sneak away for that) along with vendors and shows and music and lots of other stuff.

I wanted to come up with some new products for Halloween so this has been a great motivator.

I designed these Halloween Bingo Card Coasters just for fun and really enjoyed the process.

However, I do have a bit of anxiety about this show.

I was approached about participating by the powers-that-be because they didn’t have many (or any perhaps?) “vintage” vendors.Halloween Bingo Coaster Set by Cheltenham Road

So, that’s cool. I happy with that designation.

Except….. Halloween fans can go in a couple of ways and I’m concerned that these are going to be the blood/horror/gore/violence Halloween fans and I’ll be all, likeRetro Halloween Bingo Card Coaster Sety by Cheltenham Road

“I have cute, vintage pumpkins from the 50s!”

and they’ll be all like,

“we’re going to kill you.”

We shall see.  Wish me luck!

Oh, and if you are in LA and keen on Halloween come on by and when you go to buy a ticket online use the promo code “Cheltscare” for a 20% discount!SCARE LA Discount

PS:  I don’t want to talk about the bathroom.  Or the fact that in the midst of bathroom remodel upheaval I decided it would be a perfect time to repaint the interior of the house……more on both fronts to follow.

About cheltenhamroad

I’ve been surrounded by amazingly creative people my whole life. My mom can, and does, make anything. The family has on occasion speculated that she just whipped up my dad one day when she discovered some left over fabric and stuffing. My three sisters have mad skills ranging from needlework to cooking to out and out ART. My father’s desk when I was growing up had a model train set going around it, oh, and he made that desk-from scratch. I’m the youngest and, as you can imagine, it’s a hard series of acts to follow. Truth be told, I’ve spent many, many years suppressing the creative instincts I learned at home. But I realized (rather late in life) that few things bring me more joy than making and creating. For the longest time when I went to stores I didn’t think, “I want that” I thought, “I can make that.” And, with a deep breath and a leap, I’ve started on a very new, kinda scary path. I’ve given up my steady, dependable (dull!) corporate life to spend my days happily humming away in my garage designing, creating, painting, decoupaging and sawing and, since this blog will be an honest take on things, there is also a fair amount of tripping, spilling and swearing. Through this blog I hope to share with you the struggles and (hopefully) triumphs of a very non-businessy business person. I also hope to make this blog a resource for people who like to work with their hands and who are, like me, always looking at things and thinking “I could make that!” I’ve lived many places since I left Cheltenham Road; I currently live in Los Angeles California. So, with this preamble- Welcome to Cheltenham Road! Please come on over and make yourself comfortable – the place is always open.

  1. I’m guessing you will do really well with those!

  2. Painting the house while doing the bathroom remodel? Are you my long lost twin? That sounds exactly like something I would do…oh, this project is overwhelming. How do I cope? I know! I will start another project that I CAN complete, more easily. That logic would mystify others, unless they are “blessed” with our creative thinking. When I was in labor with my first child I kept asking them if they could find someone else to take my place…really.
Love the bingo cards and the scary fiends will swoop right past your things. There are people who adore the old fashioned, charming items from by gone Halloween and I believe they will be thrilled to find somehting easier on their wallets than original antiques.
I think Halloween is the best holiday and I prefer the quaint scares of yesteryear rather than the horrific stuff of today. I even have a totally black cat (not one white hair, named, Boo because he looks surprised, like the black cats in old illustrations.)

  3. FREAKin’ cool!

I love the Halloween items I bought from you last year! Halloween is one of the biggest decorating holidays compared to when we were kids–it’s not too early to jump on the bandwagon.

  4. Congrats on being chosen for the upcoming Halloween show. I, too, am sure you will do great. Remember, Haunted Mansion is also cute scary not blood and gore. I really like cute and quaint. I do not like blood and gore. Keep us posted on how it goes.
Good luck on all your home projects too. I am easily distracted also…could we be ADD?

  5. I think your test-tube vases would do really well at a show like this. With a cool, spooky image and dead flowers in each tube.

  6. No guts and gore for me either. Vintage is more fun . . . and not so creepy! Nice coasters.
