Happy 2013 everyone!

I took a little post-holiday pause.  I didn’t actually mean it to be as long a pause as it turned out to be…..basically, I just didn’t want to make anything for a little while.  I was made-out.

But, I’m slowly getting back into the swing (I have to – I have orders due).  However I’m a little bit between-projects so I thought I’d do a review of my more popular posts from 2012 (otherwise known as “vamping).

My Paint Chip Calendar made a lot of people’s “to do” list – including the way cool folks over in England at The Money Saving Expert who made it one of their Top Three Festive Fivers!Easy Project Use Paint Chips to make a CalendarAnd everyone seemed  relieved when I finally got my workroom all finishedWorkroom Makeover Desk - Command CentralSo far it’s working out great and I have a few modification ideas in mind for 2013.

My tutorial about how to build some craft show display towers seemed to make people laugh at me strike a chord with my fellow craft show participants.Vendor Display Booth for CheltenhamRoadMy, You’ve Got Mail,  Post-Card Dresser proved to be a popular idea and made the most “pinned” project I’ve done to date.  Vintage Postcard Dresser Now….if someone would just buy it (it’s sitting in my dining room).

And my Paris themed coffee table makeover seemed to put people in a Continental state of mind.Paris Subway Art Coffe Table 6 finiAnd finally, we briefly interrupt this blog for a moment of sincerity.Thank You

I just want to say thank you so much to all of you (and especially my family) who read, comment, pin and link up here.

It can get a bit lonely sitting around the house making stuff and I’m so appreciative of the community we’ve developed.  Your comments crack me up and your kind words about my various endeavors really keep me going!  Thank you very, very much.

OK, onward into 2013!

About cheltenhamroad

I’ve been surrounded by amazingly creative people my whole life. My mom can, and does, make anything. The family has on occasion speculated that she just whipped up my dad one day when she discovered some left over fabric and stuffing. My three sisters have mad skills ranging from needlework to cooking to out and out ART. My father’s desk when I was growing up had a model train set going around it, oh, and he made that desk-from scratch. I’m the youngest and, as you can imagine, it’s a hard series of acts to follow. Truth be told, I’ve spent many, many years suppressing the creative instincts I learned at home. But I realized (rather late in life) that few things bring me more joy than making and creating. For the longest time when I went to stores I didn’t think, “I want that” I thought, “I can make that.” And, with a deep breath and a leap, I’ve started on a very new, kinda scary path. I’ve given up my steady, dependable (dull!) corporate life to spend my days happily humming away in my garage designing, creating, painting, decoupaging and sawing and, since this blog will be an honest take on things, there is also a fair amount of tripping, spilling and swearing. Through this blog I hope to share with you the struggles and (hopefully) triumphs of a very non-businessy business person. I also hope to make this blog a resource for people who like to work with their hands and who are, like me, always looking at things and thinking “I could make that!” I’ve lived many places since I left Cheltenham Road; I currently live in Los Angeles California. So, with this preamble- Welcome to Cheltenham Road! Please come on over and make yourself comfortable – the place is always open.

  1. We love reading your blog… even when it an overview of previous entries, which is what I assume vamping means. 🙂
I still see your paint chip calendar pinned by complete strangers that I follow on Pinterest. I can’t believe that didn’t win your most pinned project. I think you should award yourself with your funniest entry… Captain Frazzeled had my crying I was laughing so hard. Of course I felt sorry for your misfortunes that you were chronicling… but it made for a good entry. :))
    Happy New Year!

  2. I’m looking forward to your 2013 entries. Your blog is the first one I look for every day. Does your work room still look so tidy? I’m very impressed!

    • Oh Doreen OF COURSE it looks neat and tidy at all times. I can’t believe you’d even suggest otherwise! As you can tell from my posts I am always together, organized and efficient…….i also lie a lot……

  3. It’s a lovely work room and looks user friendly. I shall try not to imagine a solitary, frazzled David finally going over the edge in the tidy work room, doing a Shining “Here’s Johnny”, but with a small craft scalpel instead of an axe:-)

Happy New Year to you and all the best for 2013.

    • well, given my nature I’d probably go more in the direction of curled-up-under-the-desk-whimpering rather than knife-wielding-sociopath but I appreciate your good thoughts nonetheless.

  5. I think I can speak for all your followers/fans when I say it is we who should be thanking you for inspireing us to try, try, again when we “fall” and making us laugh while we’re getting up.
Have a happy and productive 2013.

  6. I just love your ideas and looking at all of the fabulous things you come up with. Looking forward to more in the new year!

    • Thanks very much – I will endeavor to keep the ideas coming – hopefully on a more regular basis than of late. Speaking of which – your post on blogging goals for 2013 really struck a chord with me. Thank you for that!
