Invaluable Web Freebies

It’s was a rainy Monday in Los Angeles yesterday.

And it was kinda nice.

The relentless sunshine here always makes me feel, regardless of what I’m doing, that I really should be outside doing something more fun.  The occasional rainy day makes staying inside and getting chores done seem pleasant.

So while a billion coasters were drying (I have two large wholesale orders due) I spent a little time organizing all my bookmarked web pages and was reminded about the amazing ideas and generosity available on the web.

I’m sure you all know abut The Graphics Fairy and her astounding range of wonderful and free images.  I’ve used her work on everything from my French Label TablesTo Halloween Blocks

 I’ve also just discovered fuzzimo:

Run by Antoniu it is an incredible repository of great graphics, really clear photoshop tutorials and brushs, free fonts and on and on.

I’m always hunting for new fonts and would get nowhere without

I also like to create my own wallpaper designs for my letters

and found a great resource for that an many, many other design needs at the  VectorGraphicsBlog

I downloaded their Ornate Decorative Elements package

and in about 20 minutes had made this:

Cathe Holden is a graphic designer who gives almost all of her ideas and graphics away for free over at Just Something I Made (which my sister Paula turned me onto)

And it just goes on and on!

Do you all have any great “go-to” sites when you’re looking to create something?

About cheltenhamroad

I’ve been surrounded by amazingly creative people my whole life. My mom can, and does, make anything. The family has on occasion speculated that she just whipped up my dad one day when she discovered some left over fabric and stuffing. My three sisters have mad skills ranging from needlework to cooking to out and out ART. My father’s desk when I was growing up had a model train set going around it, oh, and he made that desk-from scratch. I’m the youngest and, as you can imagine, it’s a hard series of acts to follow. Truth be told, I’ve spent many, many years suppressing the creative instincts I learned at home. But I realized (rather late in life) that few things bring me more joy than making and creating. For the longest time when I went to stores I didn’t think, “I want that” I thought, “I can make that.” And, with a deep breath and a leap, I’ve started on a very new, kinda scary path. I’ve given up my steady, dependable (dull!) corporate life to spend my days happily humming away in my garage designing, creating, painting, decoupaging and sawing and, since this blog will be an honest take on things, there is also a fair amount of tripping, spilling and swearing. Through this blog I hope to share with you the struggles and (hopefully) triumphs of a very non-businessy business person. I also hope to make this blog a resource for people who like to work with their hands and who are, like me, always looking at things and thinking “I could make that!” I’ve lived many places since I left Cheltenham Road; I currently live in Los Angeles California. So, with this preamble- Welcome to Cheltenham Road! Please come on over and make yourself comfortable – the place is always open.

  1. Hey David…Relentless sunshine????pppplllllllttttttttt. 😉

  2. Yeah….I wasn’t really expecting sympathy for that one. But, honestly, I kind of like weather (rain, storms, snow etc and I grew up in Ohio and lived in NYC so I know the realities) and LA’s kind of “always the same” weather thing gets dull.

  3. I know, I’m just messin with ya. I would sure settle for some of that sunshine and warmth, though! Hey, my in-laws are going to be in your neck of the woods for my mil’s 60 b’day next month. They have tickets to the Tonight Show and are going to try to catch a glimpse of the red carpet on Oscar night. Any “insider” information on things to do and see that I could pass along to them would be most appreciated! 🙂

  4. Great tips here David!
I also love the Graphic Fairy and Fuzzimo!
    Supper cool freebies
